Located right by the Montseny range, Masia Can Sunyer is a little agrotourism gem that offers a unique experience in the midst of nature. With each measure they implement, Jerusa Chaparro and Magda Pérez, the farm managers, seek to leave a positive mark on the planet by promoting life in harmony with the environment.
A life philosophy
Masia Can Sunyer is a space where you can have an authentic, educational experience in profound connection with the countryside. This is why their commitment to sustainability is an unwavering value that permeates all facets of Masia Can Sunyer, from farming to accommodations.
Their responsible management aims to minimise the environmental and social impact of their business. The farm cultivates the land using what they describe as a philosophy of “rest and joy”, offering seasonal, organic products that guarantee food filled with good energy, health and flavour. This dedication to sustainable farming is reflected in their production of vegetables, legumes and the exclusive VERA variety of olive oil that is local to the Vallès region, and in the way they distribute their products, selling them directly to consumers through farmers’ markets, cooperatives and weekly baskets delivered to customers’ doors. This is their way of fostering environmental awareness, zero waste and the circular economy. They also supply nearby restaurants to ensure that their organic products reach more people.
This commitment also extends to awareness-raising. In an area near big cities, where many people are out of touch with the countryside, Masia Can Sunyer works hard to educate its visitors and the community about the importance of sustainable agriculture and responsible consumption.
Unique agrotourism experiences
Masia Can Sunyer offers an immersive experience by encouraging its visitors to participate in activities that go beyond tourism. Here, they can enjoy healthy cuisine, learn about organic farming and participate in workshops that help children and adults rediscover local vegetables.
Those who have had a meal in their farm garden describe it as an unforgettable activity. Participants can enjoy nature as they walk through olive trees, gather organic vegetables and learn how to cook with them. With this experience, you can get your hands dirty harvesting tomatoes, onions and other seasonal products, go to the house and learn all the tricks to bring out the best in the vegetables and how to prepare them with meat and seafood, and afterwards eat in a relaxed setting as you talk about the benefits of the natural environment. If you go with children, they can also participate by collecting the hens’ eggs or planting lettuce in the garden.
The farm also offers rural accommodations for up to ten people, with various areas for relaxation, including a swimming pool and areas for making paella and holding barbecues and calçotades [a traditional Catalan gathering to eat grilled calçots, a kind of green onion]. This combination of comfort and sustainability makes Can Sunyer an ideal destination for unwinding and reconnecting with nature.
Montseny, a can’t-miss destination
Due to its location, not only can visitors savour the peace and quiet, they can also lose themselves in the farm’s surroundings and go on different hiking routes and activities, which the Masia will tell guests all about. For example, you can head to the Montseny massif, home to a protected natural park that UNESCO has classified as a Biosphere Reserve, and take one of the many well-marked routes to discover its incredible forests filled with holm oaks, beech, chestnut, pine and fir trees, along with its countless rivers, streams and pools. But you can also find diverse landscapes a bit closer by, near La Garriga, including everything from irrigated farms to mosaics of crop fields, the mountain slopes of Puiggraciós and Els Cingles de Bertí, and the riverside landscape along the Congost River as it crosses the entire town. It is a fantastic natural environment that you can discover with brief walks or more strenuous hikes.
Visiting Masia Can Sunyer can be a transformative experience, given that you can learn about the importance of sustainability and respecting and caring for the land as you enjoy comfortable accommodations and delicious home-made meals. Its Biosphere certification, which it earned in 2022, along with the Barcelona Provincial Council’s Network of Products of the Land seal and the Local Produce seal, are yet further proof of this farm’s concern with both the environment and the local community, in addition to their goal of creating fond memories for everyone who visits.
