Barcelona recognises companies committed to sustainability in the 8th edition of the Barcelona Sustainable Tourism Awards for Best Practices

The Barcelona Tourist Consortium’s Sustainable Tourism programme held the eighth edition of its Best Practices Awards, which recognise the efforts and dedication of companies in the tourism sector in regard to sustainability.

The awards include four categories. The Social category was won by Hotel Palace Barcelona, for its collaboration with cancer networks, while the Món Sant Benet medieval complex won in the Environmental category, for its sustainable protection of historical sites. The company Del Peix al Plat, a project aimed at preserving Barcelona’s fishing tradition, took the prize in the Traditions and Cultural and Natural Heritage category. And lastly, the Estiu Sense Barreres [Summer Without Barriers] project, run by Tibidabo Amusement Park, won in the Accessibility category.

The event is organised by a committee from the Sustainable Tourism programme, a Barcelona Tourist Consortium initiative that brings together a series of tourism establishments and services that are committed to accessibility and environmental, cultural, social and economic sustainability, making it possible to enjoy the city in a more responsible way.

Business With Social Value, values-based companies

The awards ceremony for the Barcelona Sustainable Tourism Awards for Best Practices was held as part of the Business With Social Value (BWSV) event, which took place on 31 May in Barcelona’s Hotel Alimara. The event, in its thirteenth edition this year, aims to promote the inclusion of products and services from social and sustainable suppliers in companies, organisations and institutions. Since 2016, BWSV also includes the offer of Social & Sustainable Tourism, a networking and learning space for businesses that make a commitment to sustainable tourism.

Throughout the day, there were various talks, first-person accounts and round-table discussions, where participants could update their knowledge and discover new business opportunities.

Business With Social Value was held in collaboration with the Barcelona Tourist Consortium and the federations of organisations that support people with disabilities or who are at risk of social exclusion. The event is sponsored by Barcelona City Council, the La Caixa Foundation, the ONCE Foundation, Barcelona Provincial Council and the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya local railway network.

Business With Social Value and the Barcelona Sustainable Tourism Awards showcase businesses’ commitment to sustainability and social inclusion, promoting responsible business practices and contributing to the development of a more sustainable and accessible tourism model.
