Consistency and commitment lie at the heart of Masia Spa Can Pascol’s philosophy. Located in Pontons, this former nineteenth-century farmhouse was carefully restored by Sílvia and Eduard, who in 2004 decided to leave city life behind in search of a slower pace and a closer connection with nature. In 2010, that vision took shape with the launch of an eco-friendly rural retreat driven by a clear purpose: to promote responsible and conscious tourism.

Energy efficiency and self-sufficiency

One of the cornerstones of Can Pascol is its sustainable energy system. The farmhouse runs entirely on renewable energy, combining solar panels, biomass and solar thermal energy. A biomass boiler provides heat for both the accommodations and the spa, while solar panels cover a large proportion of daily electricity consumption. The property also benefits from excellent thermal insulation thanks to traditional materials such as stone and wood, which help to lower energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable temperature throughout the year.

Smart technology also plays an important role by allowing energy use to be monitored and managed efficiently. Together, these measures significantly lower the property’s environmental impact.

Responsible water management

Water is a precious resource, and at Can Pascol it is managed with great care. The farmhouse collects rainwater for irrigation and other uses and features water recirculation systems and flow reducers to minimise waste. Both the indoor and outdoor swimming pools use salt electrolysis systems to lower the need for chemical products and minimise their impact on the surrounding environment.

Supporting local producers and the local economy

Sustainability is also reflected in the food they serve. Their catering service prioritises organic and locally sourced products, with particular emphasis on produce from the Penedès region, including wines and cavas with Designations of Origin. This commitment to local sourcing helps to strengthen the regional economy, preserve local traditions and lower the property’s ecological footprint.

Experiences that connect people with nature

Alongside its accommodations, Can Pascol offers a range of initiatives designed to encourage environmental awareness and active participation, turning a stay into an experience that can be genuinely transformative. Activities such as ‘Love the Planet’ give visitors a closer look at the property’s sustainable model, while experiences such as ‘Breakfast and Plant a Tree’ and ‘Plogging and Mushrooms’ combine leisure, environmental education and hands-on activities in the region.

Its beautiful natural surroundings, nestled among vineyards and forests, also make the farmhouse an ideal place to relax and unwind. With its spa, saltwater swimming pool and landscaped outdoor spaces, Can Pascol promotes a slower, more mindful form of tourism, far removed from overcrowded destinations. The emphasis is on peaceful stays, and they welcome visitors who respect their surroundings and are looking for an authentic, high-quality experience.

This approach has earned the project several distinctions, including the Barcelona Sustainable Destination certification and the award for Best Sustainable Rural Accommodation in Catalonia, which recognises it as an example of how tourism can help to care for the planet while offering memorable and responsible experiences. Beyond the certifications, however, Can Pascol’s true value lies in the consistency of its approach and its ongoing drive to keep improving.
