In the municipality of Sant Pere de Torelló, located in the heart of the Vall del Ges in the Osona region, Mas Vinyoles Natura has become a benchmark for genuinely responsible rural tourism. The restoration of the centuries-old farmhouse, with more than seven hundred years of history, prioritised creating a 100% sustainable environment, integrating innovative technologies while respecting traditional architecture. Today, the farmhouse, converted into a rural accommodation, stands as a living example of how sustainability can drive a tourism project where all the elements work in perfect harmony.
Clean energy and responsible resource management
This responsible and sustainable project is committed to an energy system based on renewable sources. A biomass plant provides heating, hot water, and climate control for the indoor pool, while a semi-autonomous photovoltaic system generates electricity, significantly reducing dependence on the grid. In addition, it offers electric vehicle charging points, aiming to promote and facilitate sustainable mobility for visitors.
But the sustainability goes beyond energy. The estate combines municipal water supply with rainwater harvesting for irrigation and treats wastewater using environmentally tested and eco-friendly systems. Moreover, forest management is carried out through silvopasture with sheep, a practice that cleans the woodland, promotes biodiversity, and ensures animal welfare. To complete the cycle, the social integration cooperative Sambucus manages the cultivation of aromatic and medicinal herbs, adding a new social dimension to the project.
The fruits of the effort
Mas Vinyoles Natura is part of the Destination Barcelona Commitment to Sustainable Tourism, aligning with the sustainable tourism principles defined by COP21 and the Global Sustainable Tourism Charter. This recognition certifies that the farmhouse meets the most demanding international environmental and social standards.
Mas Vinyoles traces its origins back to the 13th century, and in the 21st century, tradition and innovation coexist in a space restored thanks to the vision of Ermen Llobet, a pioneer engineer in renewable energy, and Pepa Bargay, an artist passionate about Baroque music. From their hands, vision, and respect for life and the environment has emerged a harmonious place that honours the past while embracing the future.
Mas Vinyoles Natura is living proof that tourism can (and should) be sustainable, responsible, and inspiring. Because the future can only be written with these values. A model that combines energy efficiency, environmental respect, and social commitment, turning every stay into a unique experience.
With over 60 hectares of forest, vineyards, and crops, the estate is a true oasis for relaxation and wellbeing. In addition to rural accommodation, visitors will find spaces for events, coworking, and cultural activities, all guided by a clear philosophy: to celebrate the value of the local environment and small businesses, care for the territory, and promote sustainability.
