The Vallmora Wine Tourism and Archaeological Centre is a cultural facility located in Teià, managed by the Mancomunitat de Serveis d’Alella, El Masnou i Teià under an administrative concession. The centre’s main goal is to preserve, promote, and share the archaeological and winemaking heritage of the region, offering visitors an experience that blends history, culture, and wine tourism.
The complex consists of two main areas: the Roman archaeological site and a modern building that includes a visitor reception area, an interpretation centre with audiovisual resources, and a multipurpose room designed for educational activities, workshops, and cultural events. This facility allows visitors to understand how wine production in Roman Laietania was carried out more than two thousand years ago.
Discovered by Lluís Galera in 1966, the site was opened to the public in 2009 thanks to the support of FEDER, the Department of Culture of the Government of Catalonia, the Barcelona Provincial Council, and sponsorship from Acesa Abertis, Caixa Laietana, and Alella Vinícola.
The Roman winery of Vallmora was an important wine production centre operating between the 1st century BC and the 5th century AD. Today, visitors can see the pressing rooms (torcularia), must collection pits (laci), and semi-buried ceramic vats (dolia defossa) used for fermentation and ageing.
The site also includes a demonstration vineyard and an experimental vineyard, as well as the only two reconstructions of Roman wine presses in the country. Among its remarkable discoveries is a lead seal (signaculum) inscribed with “Epictec, slave of Lucius Pedanius Clemens”, identifying the winery’s manager in the 2nd century AD — a unique testimony to the Roman winemaking heritage of the Maresme region.
