Catalonia’s Ministry of Business and Labour has issued Order EMT/198/2024, of 5 September, enacting the regulations to award grants to support energy efficiency initiatives and circular economy projects at tourist accommodations in Catalonia. The grants are part of the Tourism Sector Modernisation and Competitiveness Plan, which in turn is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan with Next Generation European Union funding.
Awarded on a non-competitive basis, the grants are open to accommodations (hotels, apartment hotels, hostels and guesthouses), campsites, rural lodgings, tourist flats and privately owned youth hostels throughout Catalonia. Eligible projects include the installation of efficient equipment or photovoltaic solar panels, waste sorting and treatment measures and the digitalisation of business management systems.
The grant amounts vary by project and cover up to 45% of relevant expenses, although this percentage may be higher for SMEs or businesses in areas receiving special assistance.
Applications must be submitted online through the Procedures section of Government of Catalonia website and the Canal Empresa channel for businesses.
