Destination Barcelona Commitment to Sustainable Tourism, the leading project in fostering responsible tourism in Barcelona city and its counties, has launched a new promotional video that stresses the importance of social sustainability in the tourism sector.
The video, which focuses on accessibility and inclusion, aims to bring visibility to some of the programme’s initiatives while also calling all tourism companies to join the Commitment to Sustainable Tourism.
An inspiring message about social sustainability
Destination Barcelona’s tourist sustainability model seeks to promote environmentally friendly practices with a social and economic return on local communities. Thus, the video showcases the efforts of three tourist organisations that pave the way towards a sector that includes everyone.
The Hotel Princess has been hiring people at risk of social inclusion for years, especially ones from nearby neighbourhoods, as part of a broader social responsibility programme called Princess 360º. This initiative not only provides job opportunities but also has positive repercussions on the hotel's immediate environs.
Secondly, Rupit i Pruit is one of the municipalities in the Barcelona counties implementing the Tactile Approach Plan of the Barcelona Provincial Council, whose goal is to make points of tourist interest more accessible using tactile, auditory and olfactory approaches, new technologies and Easy Read materials.
Finally, through its ‘Liceu Apropa’ project, the Liceu opera house has several programmes, services and advantages to guarantee access to culture for people in situations of vulnerability due to their socio-economic milieu or because they live with some type of disability.
Destination Barcelona Commitment to Sustainable Tourism is spearheaded by the Barcelona City Council, Barcelona Turisme, the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce.
